the supper III concludes the three part supper performance by the French artist alexine chanel, which took its course in 2009. chanel takes the viewer on an ironic, sometimes parodic tour of the world of lies and illusion, the social etiquette. in supper III the artist analyses and dissects the protocols and pattern behaviours of the art world itself.
12 dinner guests, all artists, are invited to partake in a 12 course menu, which consists entirely of fake food objects hierarchiesed in size and in the spectral colours of sunlight.
they are served supper by 6 cu- rators, which also orchestrise a game of musical chairs, so that the artists have to compete for a seat at the next course.(...)
the supper iii is not about culi- nary enjoyment, but about the race for the top and the brutality it involves. (...) the event will be held as part of the month of per- formance .
